Dr. Sarah Weschke
Dr. Sarah Weschke is responsible for the topic Patient & Stakeholder Engagement (PSE) at the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) at Charité QUEST Center for Responsible Research. Since 2019, she develops and implements strategies, services and educational formats for researchers to foster meaningful patient engagement in health research at BIH and beyond. In close collaboration with the National Network Office for Gene and Cell Based Therapies, her team supports the implementation of PSE in the National Strategy.
In addition, she is an active member of various national networks on participatory approaches in (health) research. With a background in psychology, Sarah has worked as a neuropsychologist and researcher in clinical dementia research before joining the BIH QUEST Center. She has received her PhD in the field of social neuroscience in 2015.
By an early incorporation of patients’ expertise and experiences in the research process, patient-orientedness and relevance of a study or an intervention can be enhanced. This can foster the successful translation of research results into clinical practice. In addition, many funders and guidelines now demand the active engagement of patients and other stakeholders in health research. This session will provide an overview on different approaches and methods for patient engagement.
