Seit Anfang Februar 2019 ist Christine Goffinet BIH-Professorin für Virologie am Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) und am Institut für Virologie der Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Sie erforscht das Humane Immunschwäche Virus HIV und das Chikungunya-Virus, das als „emerging virus“ im Zuge der globalen Erderwärmung auch in Europa seinen Einzug hält. Bei ihren Arbeiten interessiert sich die Biologin insbesondere für die Kommunikation zwischen Virus und Wirt bzw. dessen Immunsystem: Wie wehrt sich die Wirtszelle gegen eine Infektion, und wie entzieht sich das Virus dieser Abwehr?

Im Februar erhielten Magdalena Jochner, Christoph Harms und ihr Team die Auszeichnung Paper of the Month.
